Nautical Tales

“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the Living Infinite. ”
-Captain Nemo, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

MOBY DICK

A novel by Herman Melville, it recounts the experiences of a man named Ishmael as he joined Captain Ahab of the Pequod on his quest for revenge against an albino sperm whale known as Moby Dick. The whale had torn apart his previous ship along with his leg so Ahab gathered yet another crew as they venture forth on the hunt for the whale.

THE ODYSSEY

One of the oldest surviving works of literature widely read to this day, Homer’s “Odyssey” tells the story of Odysseus, Greek hero king of Ithaca and his voyage back home following the cessation of the Trojan War. The journey back to Ithaca lasted as long as the war itself, and was fraught with many perils and travails that would claim many lives throughout their voyage back home. Assumed dead himself, Odysseus’s wife is forced to endure a flurry of eager suitors.
